Volunteer Program Common Questions
What is the volunteer time commitment?
Due to training demands, we ask for a minimum commitment of one meeting per 3 months for one year (or the equivalent of four meetings) for Support Group Leaders and a 6-month commitment for Administrative Volunteers. Make sure to check out our Volunteer Handbook for in-depth details about what it means to volunteer for SRNA.
What are the perks of volunteering?
Volunteers receive free registration to SRNA organized events such as the Rare Neuroimmune Disorders Symposium. Once certain time and/or project commitments are met, there is the opportunity to receive additional benefits in the form of SRNA-branded merchandise. The best benefit of all is the chance to be part of a community of fellow volunteers who are all passionate about SRNA and helping our community!
What is the age requirement?
18 is our age minimum, but exceptions may be made for school projects or other opportunities.
How do I apply?
Please fill out the volunteer application form. Should your background, availability, and interest meet our needs, we will be in touch about an interview. All SRNA volunteers must successfully complete a background and reference check.

You may be able to double or even triple your contribution to SRNA if you work for a company that matches employee gifts. A large number of companies will match your donations to selected charitable organizations with corporate funds, simply by asking you to fill out a form. In many cases, the Transverse Myelitis Association will qualify for these matching funds. Please see your Human Resources department to see if your company has such a matching gift program, and to determine SRNA’s eligibility. Even companies without formal programs will often provide contributions to charitable organizations in which employees are involved.
There are no membership dues for SRNA members, and we would like to maintain this policy for the Association. It is our goal to have sufficient funds to perform the work of the Association through voluntary contributions and some form of institutional funding. Contributions will be used to provide membership support, advance education and research programs on rare neuroimmune disorders of the central nervous system, which include: Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM), Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM), MOG Antibody Disease (MOGAD), Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO), Optic Neuritis (ON), and Transverse Myelitis (TM).
