Philippines Cabahug, M.D.
Dr. Philippines Cabahug earned her B.S. in physical therapy at the University of the Philippines in 1994, and her medical degree at St. Luke’s-WHQ Memorial, Philippines in 2000. She completed a physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) residency at the Philippine General Hospital in 2005. She was awarded a UN-Merck scholarship to pursue her postgraduate diploma in gerontology and geriatrics at the University of Malta in 2004. In 2009, she finished her internship in Internal Medicine at Atlanticare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She completed her second physical medicine and rehabilitation residency in 2012 at Johns Hopkins Hospital and a fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital/Kennedy Krieger Institute in 2013.
During her residency training, Dr. Cabahug received numerous awards including the Hopkins Healer Award for Outstanding Resident in 2010 and 2012, and the Frank L. Coulson Award for Clinical Excellence in 2012. She served as chief resident from 2011-2012. She was actively involved in the PM&R team that won first place at the Johns Hopkins Achieving Competence Today (ACT) Program for their project titled “Omissions at Discharge, A Quality Improvement Project.”
Dr. Cabahug has worked on several publications regarding Lean Six Sigma Quality Improvement Project focused on improving discharge paperwork. She is also an online contributor to “PM&R Knowledge Now,” the online resource of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Upon completion of her fellowship, Dr. Cabahug joined the International Center for Spinal Cord Injury as a full-time physician. She received her board certification in PM&R and in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine in 2013. She is the director of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSK-US) at KKI. She runs two MSK-US clinics at KKI– a musculoskeletal diagnostic clinic and an ultrasound-guided intrathecal pump access clinic.
Dr. Cabahug is actively involved in medical education as a faculty clinical instructor with the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
Jacqueline A. Nicholas, MD, MPH
Jacqueline Nicholas, MD, MPH is a board-certified clinical neuroimmunologist specializing in multiple sclerosis (MS) and spasticity.
As a neuroimmunologist, Dr. Nicholas provides diagnosis, treatment and comprehensive care for all types of MS, as well as a wide range of other neuroimmunological conditions. These include neuromyelitis optica (NMO), neurosarcoidosis, central nervous system vasculitis, NMDA receptor encephalitis, acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), transverse myelitis, optic neuritis, and more. She also manages intrathecal baclofen pumps and administers botox for spasticity and migraine.
Dr. Nicholas was inspired by patients she cared for with MS and NMO early in her training to enter the field of neuroimmunology. She is dedicated to providing personalized care to each patient and their family. Taking the time to educate her patients on their disease and working with each patient to develop a treatment plan tailored to their own specific needs is her top priority. She strives to provide her patients with the best possible quality of life while helping them fight back against their disease. Dr. Nicholas believes that involving patients and their families in treatment decisions, respecting their beliefs and educating them about what to expect results in the best health outcomes for her patients. Dr. Nicholas actively leads several clinical trials to help discover even more advanced treatments to help patients with MS and other neuroimmunological diseases.
She received her undergraduate degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and her medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine in Toledo, Ohio. Dr. Nicholas moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to train at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where she completed an internship in internal medicine and a neurology residency where she served as chief neurology resident. She continued her training at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, where she completed a fellowship in clinical neuroimmunology, multiple sclerosis and spasticity. Additionally, Dr. Nicholas completed her Master of Public Health degree at The Ohio State University College of Public Health to enhance the quality of her research studies to advance the state of care for her patients.
Dr. Nicholas is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
