Cure Goal Statement
Welcome to SRNA’s third quarterly magazine of 2024, themed on cure.
Cure can be a heavy word for many in the community. It’s something we’re all hopeful for, but something we have had to manage as best we can without. Those with rare neuroimmune disorders and their loved ones know a cure will happen someday. The question is, when?
Cure has always been a central tenet for SRNA for an obvious reason—there wouldn’t be SRNA if there weren’t rare neuroimmune disorders, and there wouldn’t be rare neuroimmune disorders if there were a cure. We strive to help find that cure, and in the meantime, to connect and care for all those in the rare neuroimmune community who have had their lives impacted by these conditions.
30 years ago, SRNA was started by our founders, Sandy and Pauline, who formed SRNA after an attack of transverse myelitis left Pauline paralyzed. They started the organization because they knew, although there is no cure yet, there will be someday, and in the meantime, people need help. It’s a pure motivation, something that SRNA as an organization strives to embody, even 30 years later.
Our founders led the way, opening their hearts to people, and fostering a community. They touched countless lives, and have had their own touched in return. We will continue to do the same, upholding a legacy of love for our community. We want to continue to be a place that fosters connection, community, and even the sensation of being a family, even if the cure isn’t here yet.
30 years later, having open arms for those who are impacted by rare neuroimmune disorders remains a firm value of SRNA. We continue to believe that SRNA can help connect, care, and eventually cure these rare illnesses, and we are glad to have all our members along for that journey. If you’re not a member already, please sign up here. We’d love to have you join us!
Please enjoy this issue on cure, where we’ll discuss the struggle for a cure many of those with rare neuroimmune disorders face and we look at the ways we can continue to live wonderful lives even without a cure. Thank you for reading!
