Build Skills to Reach Your Goals with SRNA and CDMS

As someone with a rare neuroimmune disorder, you may feel that everything is out of your control. Suddenly, your body may not work the same way. Your time is divided between doctor’s visits, hospitalizations, and making it to that event you’d swore you’d go to, but can’t, due to an instance of relapse or a bout of pain.

It can be hard to take charge of your life while managing a rare neuroimmune disorder. We at SRNA understand that, and so do the amazing team at Can Do MS (CDMS), who we’ve partnered with to bring you a coaching series on rare neuroimmune disorders. This series is designed to help you take back some control by helping you build your skills. Together with others in the SRNA community, you will learn to set goals, create plans of action, and make real changes for your life. During the coaching series, you will gain essential health and wellness education, coaching support, and resources.

Two members of our community who participated in a coaching series in the past, Angela and Joy, shared their experience:

Why did you want to participate in the coaching program? What brought you to the program?

I know what’s behind me.  I want to know what’s in front of me. I believe that the coaching program provides an opportunity to learn more and interact with others.

– Angela

How have you used the information and discussions from the coaching program in your life?

It was great information to have. The main thing I learned was through meeting other people. It’s isolating and it’s lonely having a rare disorder, and there was great information about finding support groups and being in community. I also learned information about meditation and journaling.

After participating in the Coaching Series, I felt more equipped the next time I visited my doctor. I better understood how to navigate it all. Coping skills like bringing someone with you to appointments and recording things.

Felt more equipped next time visiting doctor and how to navigate.

The aspect of being in a group helped me learn. You can glean information from others who were there. They are going through the exact same thing, they’re going through the same journey.

– Joy

Would you recommend someone else participate in this kind of program? Why?

I would recommend this program because it’s informative.  The information provided provides ways to set goals, learn something you didn’t know about, try new things, Identify obstacles, and recommendations to overcome them.  Also, meeting others willing to share their stories.

– Angela

I would absolutely recommend this program. On a scale of one to ten would say ten or even twenty! Even if you’re a veteran with many years of living with your disorder, there’s always more information to navigate and to learn. Bodies are always changing, there’s always new things out there to help us.
