About our Guest Speakers


Jonathan Cheng, MD, FACS
Children’s Medical Center and UT Southwestern Medical Center

Dr. Cheng is chief of pediatric hand, peripheral nerve and microvascular surgery at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, and director of the basic and translational research nerve lab at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is an associate professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery and a member of the joint program in Biomedical Engineering. His research lab is developing treatments for long gap peripheral nerve injuries and strategies for neural interfacing in closed-loop man-machine systems.



Mitch Seruya, MD
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles

Dr. Seruya completed his residency in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where he developed a strong interest in helping children with congenital and acquired deformities. This passion for pediatric plastic surgery took Dr. Seruya to Australia, where he completed two fellowships at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne. His first fellowship was in cleft and craniofacial surgery and his second fellowship was in pediatric hand and microsurgery. Dr. Seruya now serves as the Director of the Center for Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He delivers expertise in the field of peripheral nerve injuries, including brachial plexus palsy and facial palsy. He is also engaged in clinical outcomes-based research as a means of optimizing treatment modalities and functional outcomes.
