2nd Annual Regional Transverse Myelitis Clinical Care Symposium
June 21, 2014 | Baltimore, Maryland
On Saturday June 21, 2014, over 100 individuals diagnosed with TM, NMO and other rare myelopathic disorders came together with their caregivers and family members at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD for a hugely successful Clinical Care Symposium. Many attendees met others with the same diagnosis for the first time! Participants came from as far as California, Utah, and even Australia to interact with experts from Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH), Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI), and International Neurorehabilitation Institute (INI). The symposium topics addressed issues that most affect patients on a day-to-day basis, including diagnosis of transverse myelitis, neuropsychiatric impact of the diseases, gait dysfunction and innovative rehabilitation strategies, spasticity management, bowel & bladder management, developments in stem cell treatments, and management of Neuromyelitis Optica. The program was a combination of lectures and breakout roundtable sessions, with some question and answer time made available in a day packed with information!
Thank you to the attendees and experts who joined us, volunteers from JHH and KKI, Alexion Pharmaceuticals for an unrestricted educational grant and the Bart A. McLean Neuroimmunology Research Fund for helping sponsor the event.
