Welcome to the Back-to-School kit for children diagnosed with a rare neuroimmune disorder and their families. This kit contains both shareables for teachers and interested parents who would like to learn more about your child’s condition.
Below are some information packets for you and your child:
- A guide on requesting accommodations and a summary of some accommodations your child may need to access their education fully.
- A guide for parents with tips and tricks on social reintegration and how to approach education when your child’s life differs from other children’s.
- A letter for your child from Ireland Thomas. Ireland grew up with a rare neuroimmune disorder and understands how it feels to be a child with something so rare.
We hope that these resources can help you along your journey. Please know that you are not alone in this, and please reach out to [email protected] if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions on how to improve.

A digital copy of “No Time For The Moon,” a children’s book about four kids with Acute Flaccid Myelitis who have big dreams. It’s written with children in mind, so it’s a wonderful resource for your Pre-K-5th grade classroom. Your child’s teacher may like to read the book to the class. It introduces the idea of disabilities in a way that may benefit your child.
