As a neuroimmunologist, I am honored to care for individuals with rare neuroimmune diseases. I feel extremely blessed to be able to offer guidance and hope for the future. I am lucky to work with an amazing team of individuals who help to improve the lives of our patients every day.
I direct the OhioHealth Multiple Sclerosis Center where I serve as System Chief for Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis for OhioHealth. Our goal is to provide personalized, multidisciplinary, state of the art care and resources for patients and their families. My research is focused on clinical interventions and symptom management in neuroimmunologic disease and spasticity. I direct a neuroimmunology fellowship program to help educate and develop future experts in the field. My hope is that high quality, timely care and treatment will be available to all affected by AFM, ADEM, MOGAD, NMOSD, ON, and TM.
When I entered medicine, I did so with an intense interest in neuroscience. My personal experiences with family members and friends affected by neurological diseases drew me into the field. Early on in my neurology training, I met a young woman who was mistakenly told she had a brainstem tumor. With the help of advances in research, we ultimately diagnosed her with NMOSD when early diagnostic testing became available. This sparked my interest in neuroimmunology, and I decided to dedicate my career to the cause.
In the past few decades we have come a long way in our understanding and ability to diagnose, differentiate and understand rare neuroimmune disorders. My passion is to ensure that all individuals and their families have the information and care that they need to live the best quality of life possible after being affected by these conditions. My hope is for even better treatments to prevent future damage and ultimately to have effective remyelinating therapies available to restore neurologic function.
